The main purpose of filling with silicone oil or glycerin is to provide shock and vibration resistance, protecting the internal movement and allowing the instrument to operate stably, accurately, and reliably for a long time under harsh conditions involving vibration, pulsation, and frequent starts and stops.
A stainless steel pressure gauge is a durable, corrosion-resistant pressure measurement instrument where key components (especially the case, wetted parts like the Bourdon tube, socket, and internals) are made from stainless steel (typically 304SS for the case and 316SS for process-contact parts).

Pressure surges (also known as water hammer or pressure spikes) are one of the most common causes of damage to pressure gauges.
