When opening the cylinder valve, it should rotate slowly to avoid instantaneous high-pressure impact causing fatigue of the Bourdon tube or damage to the internal mechanism.

After each seawater dive, be sure to use fresh water to flush the instrument to prevent salt crystallization from corroding the seal and glass.
